Haytham Nawar is a practising artist and designer and a scholar in the fields of art and design. He has built his professional and academic career over the past two decades, simultaneously fulfilling the different roles. He is an Associate Professor of Design and the Chair of the department of the arts at the American University in Cairo. Nawar is also the founding director of Cairotronica, Cairo International Electronic and New Media Arts Festival, Egypt. His most recent publications are Language of tomorrow: Towards a Multicultural Visual Communication System in a Post-Human Era and the co-authored book A History of Arab Graphic Design.
Nawar received his Ph.D. from the Planetary Collegium, Center for Advanced Inquiry in Integrative Arts, School of Art and Media – University of Plymouth. He holds a Masters of Advanced Studies ZFH in Spatial Design, Institute of Design & Technology, Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland and an MFA in New Media and BFA in Printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Cairo, Egypt. He is a Fulbright alumnus. Since 1999, he has participated in several international exhibitions, biennales, and triennials, the latest of which was the Venice Biennial in 2015. Nawar won awards and acquisitions nationally and internationally.
